No. ChatGPT Ads launched in Singapore on 23 September 2026, but OpenAI’s ad policy generally prohibits health services outside the United States, which covers clinics, aesthetic practices, dental clinics and supplement brands. Clinics can still reach patients inside ChatGPT through answer engine optimisation (AEO) and generative engine optimisation (GEO), which earn a place in its answers rather than paying for one.

What launched in Singapore in September?

OpenAI switched on ChatGPT Ads in Singapore on 23 September 2026, as part of a rollout across seven markets including Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. Singapore businesses can sign up and run campaigns themselves through OpenAI’s self-serve Ads Manager.

Ads are shown only to people on ChatGPT’s Free and Go plans. Paying subscribers on Plus, Pro and Enterprise plans see no ads.

Can Singapore Clinics Run ChatGPT Ads? What the Policy Says

Why can clinics not run ChatGPT ads?

OpenAI updated its ad policy on 10 September 2026. Under it, health services are generally prohibited from advertising outside the United States. In practice that covers medical clinics, specialist practices, aesthetic clinics, dental practices and health supplements.

The policy is written broadly and applies regardless of whether your content would satisfy Singapore’s own rules. A clinic whose ads are fully compliant with the Healthcare Services Act is still outside what OpenAI currently accepts.

This position can change. Policies on newly launched ad platforms often loosen as the platform matures, and the United States already permits more. Treat this as the position in early October 2026, not a permanent one.

Would ChatGPT ads have suited clinics anyway?

Even if the policy allowed it, there is a feature most clinics would need to switch off. ChatGPT Ads has a setting called Text customisation, switched on by default, which lets the platform rewrite and translate ad copy and show it without your review.

For a clinic, that is a real problem. Singapore’s healthcare advertising rules restrict what a licensee may say, and an AI rewriting your copy could introduce an outcome claim, a comparative statement or urgency language you never approved. The responsibility for what appears would still sit with the clinic.

How do clinics reach patients inside ChatGPT instead?

By being the clinic ChatGPT names when a patient asks. That route is unaffected by ad policy, costs nothing per appearance, and carries more weight with patients, because a recommendation reads as advice rather than advertising.

What are AEO and GEO, and why do they matter now?

Answer engine optimisation (AEO) is structuring your clinic’s information so AI assistants can lift a direct answer from it. Generative engine optimisation (GEO) is making sure those assistants trust and cite your clinic when they build a response. Together they decide whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews name you when a patient asks for your specialty in Singapore.

With paid placement in ChatGPT closed to health services, AEO and GEO are currently the only way for a Singapore clinic to appear there at all. That changes them from a nice extra into the main route. It is the work we do for clinics through Medical AEO & GEO, and we explain the method in more depth in How Do Singapore Clinics Get Cited in AI Search Answers?

What makes ChatGPT recommend a clinic?

It recommends clinics it can identify, verify and quote. In practice that comes down to a few things clinics control.

  1. Consistent details everywhere, meaning the same clinic name, address, phone number and doctor names across your website, Google Business Profile and directories.
  1. Doctor credentials in readable text, with registration and areas of practice stated on the page rather than inside an image.
  1. Pages organised by the questions patients actually ask, such as what a procedure involves, recovery time and what affects the fee.
  1. A direct answer at the top of each page, so ChatGPT can lift it cleanly.
  1. Independent coverage, from health directories, professional associations and editorial articles that name you.

All of this works inside Singapore’s healthcare advertising rules, because it relies on factual information rather than claims, testimonials or promotions. For how this fits alongside traditional SEO, see AI Search Is Evolving; Clinics Need Smarter SEO, GEO and AEO.

What should a clinic do now?

Check what ChatGPT currently says when a patient asks for your specialty in Singapore. If you are not named, that is the gap worth closing, and it will matter whether or not health advertising on ChatGPT ever opens up. If the policy does change, clinics already cited in answers will be the ones best placed to benefit from ads.

Frequently asked questions

Can Singapore clinics advertise on ChatGPT?

Not at present. OpenAI’s ad policy, updated in September 2026, generally prohibits health services from advertising outside the United States.

Does the ban include aesthetic and dental clinics?

Yes. The prohibition on health services covers medical clinics, aesthetic practices, dental clinics and health supplements.

Can clinics still appear in ChatGPT without ads?

Yes. Through AEO and GEO, ChatGPT can name and recommend clinics in its answers based on what it can verify and quote about them, and that is not affected by ad policy.

What is the difference between AEO and GEO?

AEO structures your content so an AI assistant can extract a direct answer from it. GEO builds the trust signals that make the assistant choose to cite your clinic. Clinics need both to be named reliably.
